When I woke up, I was relieved to feel much better than I did the day before. Instead of a throbbing migraine, I only noticed a mild headache. I was very relieved that this meant I most likely did not have the serious diving illness of decompression sickness after all. Since I had only booked that homestay for one night and unfortunately was unable to extend my stay, I had to promptly pack my bags and moved to a different homestay. Tired of the hotel shuffling from the previous few days, I booked a new homestay across the street from Padang Padang Beach for 2 nights so I could somewhat settle.
At the new homestay, I enjoyed the AC of my room and caught up on some work until it was nearing evening time. I rented a motorbike and rode to Single Fin, a famous and reputable cliffside pool, patio, and restaurant. Back in San Diego, I live in Mission Beach next to a bar called “Single Fin Bar & Grill.” Being regulars there and friends with the owners, I heard from them they used to surf in Bali, and they created their Single Fin restaurant in San Diego inspired by the Single Fin in Bali. Bali is a big place, yet luckily and unknowingly to me, Single Fin is located in Uluwatu beach about 2 miles from where I stayed. I rode my motorbike to Single Fin and secured a solid seat facing west to enjoy the views of surfers and sunset. I had a few mocktails, did some more writing, made friends with a few French travelers there, and enjoyed the sunset.
