In the morning, we went back to our remote work office consisting of a large bench and swinging couch poolside, leading with another group meditation before diving into it. After working for a few hours, we walked to Watthana’s main strip in search of a lunch spot that would catch our eyes. Many small local restaurants have their menus with pictures (very helpful for foreign travelers) posted outside the front door. We landed at Nobu, a Japanese sushi restaurant where we shared an assortment of sashimi, nigiri, and rice.
Following lunch, we continued working until Joseph and Morgan went to get manicures and pedicures. Having never experienced one myself, I gave it much consideration before remembering I have a weird physical rejection of the feeling and sounds of nail files. Similar to the feeling some people get when nails scratch chalkboards or metal cutlery on plate, I can’t tolerate the feeling or even sound of nail filing.
After their pampering appointment, we met at a nice tea and bar spot called Te Time and Space. Here, we discussed planning out the events we wanted to do for the remainder of our time in Bangkok. We booked reservations for a Thai cooking class and tickets to a Muay Thai kickboxing fight, and planned out other events as well.
Following our tea and cocktail planning party, we walked to a local Vietnamese restaurant called Saigon Times, where Joseph enjoyed a Bahn Mi sandwich and Morgan and I each enjoyed pork noodle bowls. After devouring our delicious dinners, we headed to Marley’s smoke shop and bar, the place Joseph and I visited after dinner the night we arrived in Bangkok. This time, I was prepared and equipped with my flash drives with my music in case I would have the chance to DJ. Bringing my music paid off and I was allowed the chance to mix. I mixed a variety of dance, house, and tech house hits for about 90 minutes or so, during which I had very positive reception from patrons and workers. I truly had so much fun getting to do a mix at Marley’s head shop and bar in Bangkok, and I hope it won’t be long before the next opportunity.
After Marley’s we were heading back when I heard the sounds of a live band coming from a bar close to our spot. Morgan and Joseph proceeded home, but I followed my ears in. They lead me to a Muse cover band performing in a small dive bar, where I hung out with some locals, an American expat, and two Canadian travelers.
